Toyota Corolla GLI vs Honda City which to Buy for Luxury Driving Experience

In the fast pace era of today, choosing a sedan car is always a difficult decision for a consumer as there are a lot of options available in this specific automobile category. It is because there is a variety of sedan cars available which are offering a vast range of features and specs. If you are looking for a family sedan car which is easy to maintain, luxurious and budget-friendly then you might find yourself in between two famous sedans which are Toyota Corolla GLI and Honda City. Both these cars are flagship sellers of both the renowned auto manufacturers Honda and Toyota. Toyota Corolla has been the best seller sedan car for Toyota for many years now. The same goes for Honda City for Honda. Today in this blog we will be doing a detailed comparison between both these popular sedan cars to help you decide which car can be the right choice for our readers. Do keep in mind that in this blog I will be comparing Toyota Gli 1.3 M/T with Honda City Aspire 1.5 Prosmatec based on price and engine capacity.

Exterior Comparison between Toyota Corolla GLI vs Honda City

Honda City:

The exterior of this luxurious sedan by Honda features alloy rims, but with a design that is around 10 years old. The sedan car might not look as good as compared with modern cars which are introduced by Honda, like for instance Honda Civic. However, you need to know that Atlas Honda is selling old fifth Generation City rather than the more modern and sleek design sixth Generation City in some countries of the world. When it comes to a dimension of Honda City it is measured 4390mm length, 1695mm width, and 2550 wheelbase.

Toyota Corolla GLI:

The exterior of Corolla GLI features a similar design language like any other sedan car available in the automotive industry. It features plastic wheel covers, but when we talk about the exterior styling of this popular sedan by Toyota it features a bold and aggressive design language. Though, it certainly not is a surprise because Toyota released the new generation Corolla in 2014, which featured a whole new design language. Corolla GLI also outshines its tough rival Honda City in terms of the exterior with quite a margin. Toyota GLI measures at 4620mm length, 1775mm width, and 2700mm wheelbase. It surely shows the Corolla GLI has a big cabin with sufficient carrying space as compared to Honda City.

Interior Comparison between Toyota Corolla GLI vs Honda City

When we step inside both the cars you will surely realize that neither Honda City nor Corolla GLI has an appealing interior by any means. If I am asked to define the interior of both these sedan cars I will use in the word which is “durability.” Both sedan cars interiors are designed to last long rather make the rider feel good. Corolla GLI has better use of materials in the interior, especially in the dashboard and door side panels. However, Honda City uses more plastic all around its interior. The City Aspire comes with a 7-inch infotainment system which in comparison to Corolla GLI it comes with a simple CD-player despite being more expensive. Both cars come with a 4-speaker audio system. Other than this, both cars interior feature central locking and power windows. The switches such as power windows and AC controls in both cars are laid in a logical manner and easy to operate by both the driver and passenger. If we talk about interior space than without any doubt Corolla GLI has bigger interior space as compared to Honda City, above all it makes it a better car to travel on long tours.

Security and Safety Features:

Both the sedan cars by Honda and Toyota are equipped with:

  • Power door locks
  • Keyless entry
  • Immobilizer
  • ABS brakes
  • Power steering

The safety and security features which are missing in both these sedan cars by Honda and Toyota are:

  • Rear parking camera
  • Traction control
  • Airbags

The above-mentioned safety and security features which are missing is truly a shame especially being available at this price tag. At least both these sedan cars should come with one driver side airbag to add true value to money. So, when it comes to safety features and security it’s once again a tie as both cars have similar equipment.

Engine and Transmission:

When we talk about Honda City Aspire it is powered with the 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine which is mated to 5-speed automatic transmission, whereas when we talk about Corolla GLI it is powered with the 1.3-liter VVT-I engine which is mated to 5-speed manual transmission. However, Corolla GLI also comes in an automatic transmission, but sadly it is 4-speed automatic transmission. By keeping this aside, let us talk about both sedan cars performance and engine power. Corolla GLI 1.3 liter engine has the capability to produce 84hp at 6000rpm with a torque of 121Nm. On the other hand, Honda City Aspire 1.5 liter engine has the capability to produce 120hp at 6000rpm and a torque of 145Nm.

After having a look at both these numbers, Honda City certainly outshines Corolla GLI in engine output power. Unlike Honda City, Corolla GLI feels a bit underpowered due to its heavy and big body. Honda City can go 0-100kmph in a duration of 10 seconds, whereas Corolla GLI needs 14 seconds to reach this speed. Both cars come with a similar fuel economy which is 11-16kmpl.

Final Verdict:

After doing a detailed comparison of both the sedan cars by Honda and Toyota. I have come to a decision that both these sedans have an excellent repute in the automotive industry. No matter which automobile you buy both will be a true value for money and will satisfy your needs in an effortless manner. Though, in my opinion, Honda City Aspire is a true winner as in terms of engine and equipment it wins the challenge of comparison with Toyota Corolla GLI.
